In the early 1840s Burdin and other students of Alexander Venetsianov painted rooms in theWinter Palace and the Hermitage. We know that Burdin lived in Moscow from the summer of 1843 through early 1844 and “did views” of the halls of the old building of the Armory Chamber near the Troitsky Bridge. The collection of the State Historical Museum in Moscow includes a version of this picture, showing the same hall but with a group of museum staff in the foreground. |
